Four JCCs seek reappointment, one more judgeship to be filled

The Statewide Nominating Commission for Judges of Compensation Claims will meet February 11 at 9 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport to interview the following judges of compensation claims for reappointment; Judge Donna Remsnyder (MEL), Judge Laura Roesch (PMC), Judge Renee Hill (GNS), and Judge Diane Beck (SAR).

The commission will also interview prospective applicants/candidates for nomination as judge of compensation claims for the Daytona District, for the vacancy resulting from the appointment of Judge Thomas Portuallo to the circuit court (term to commence upon gubernatorial appointment, not anticipated to be before April 2013).

Guidelines for the operation of the Commission are available at www.fljcc.org/JCC/snc.asp.

Applications, one original and 15 copies, for initial appointment or reappointment should be submitted to the Division of Administrative Hearings, The DeSoto Building, 1230 Apalachee Parkway, Tallahassee 32399-3060 no later than 5 p.m., January 17, EST. DOAH will distribute the applications to the individual members of the SNCJCC.

Any questions or comments relating to any of the above judges of compensation claims should be addressed in writing to Wogan “Wogie” Badcock, SNCJCC Chair, P.O. Box 497, Mulberry 33860.

If anyone wishes to speak at the commission meeting in opposition to the reappointment of any of the above judges or the nomination of any applicant, written notice must be provided to the chair and the Division of Administrative Hearings no later than 5 p.m., January 28. The letter should include the intention to address the commission and a brief explanation regarding the request. If anyone wishes to present any documents in support of an appearance, copies must be provided to the chairman and the Division of Administrative Hearings by 5 p.m., January 28. Presentations will be limited to four minutes.

The Commission will not ordinarily grant any requests for personal appearances to speak in favor of any of the above sitting judges. However, the committee will accept letters in support of the current judges as long as they are delivered to the chair and DOAH by 5 p.m., January 28. If opposition to reappointment of a sitting judge is appropriately filed, then the commission may allow personal appearance to speak in favor of the judge, at the Commission’s discretion.

The commission will meet telephonically on February 4 at 2 p.m. to discuss procedural issues for the February 11 meeting. This telephonic commission meeting will be open to the public by dialing (888) 670-3525, and entering code number 249 217 2867# when prompted.
